Overgrown Mural

A Forgotten Mural Just Got Its Comeback Moment

May 07, 20261 min read

Back in 2012, a community beautification mural came to life through the combined efforts of Alton Main Street, Pride Beautification Bucket Brigade, artist Jeanie Cousley, and a team of dedicated community painters.

Fourteen years later, that same mural was still there, but the view had quietly been taken over by weeds. So, on Sunday morning, a few friends rolled up their sleeves, grabbed some tools, and got to work.

About an hour later? Voilà. The mural had its comeback moment.

It was a small cleanup with a big reminder: when people care enough to show up, even for an hour, our community gets a little brighter.

This also marks a running start for Pride Inc.’s Boomer Brigade, a new effort focused on Riverbend beautification and cleanup opportunities.

Stay tuned for more details on how to join in.

Now the only question is: where do we start next?
