Litter is more than an eyesore

A Call to Action

Litter is more than an eyesore—it costs communities millions to clean up, harms our health, and threatens wildlife and waterways. With more than 50 billion pieces of litter across the United States—152 pieces for every American—the problem can feel overwhelming. But here’s the truth: litter is solvable. More than 90% of Americans agree it’s a problem, and when people take action, change follows.

That’s where you come in.

On Saturday, April 10, 2026, Pride Beautification is bringing our community together for Alton’s CityWide Litter CleanUp. Whether you grab a friend, form a team, or show up solo, your effort matters. Every piece picked up makes our neighborhoods cleaner, safer, and more beautiful.

Take it one step further—join the #152PickUpChallenge. Pick up 152 pieces of litter, snap a photo, and share your impact by tagging @PrideBeautification and @KeepAmericaBeautiful.

Seeing our collective progress is powerful—and contagious.

Change doesn’t start somewhere else. It starts right here, with us. Let’s be the generation that didn’t just notice the problem, but did something about it.

For nostalgia’s sake, we have attached some photos and press articles from days-gone-by, and here is a link to an old public service commercial from 1970 that is still relevant today.
